Parental influences upon alcohol use by teenagers in Benin City, NigeriaDepartment of Health & Physical Education, Faculty of Education, University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria ON THE basis of data on alcohol drinking patterns collected from a sample of 500 teenagers in Benin City, Nigeria, this study revealed that teenagers were introduced to alcohol drinking by their parents out of ignorance. The majority of the teenagers (60%) reported that they started drinking alcohol at home and at a tender age. The alcohol drinking was also identified to have started during traditional activi ties or administered by parents as alcohol concoction (mixture of alcohol and herbs).
