Faculty of Sciences, The Polytechnic, Queensgate, Huddersfield, HDI 3DH, West Yorkshire AN EQUATION to predict intake in institutionalised elderly, derived from data collected in W. Yorkshire, was tested in two homes for the elderly in Shropshire by comparing observed with predicted intakes. On average, observed and predicted intakes differed by only about 2%, although there were substantial individual discrepancies. Observed intakes of iron, folate, and vitamins A and D were below recommended intakes for these nutrients.
