Stress Fractures: RevisitedVeterans Administration Medical Center, 2100 Ridgecrest Drive S.E., Albuquerque, New Mexico 87108, U.S.A. STRESS FRACTURES are the result of bone fatigue from the inability of a bone to accommodate at a rate fast enough to meet the demands placed upon it. They usually occur in bones that experience repeated and unaccustomed micro- trauma or stress. Treatment, after diagnosis, consists of rest from activity, immobilization by casting or strapping, adjunctive nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents and isometric exercise.
