The social responsibilities of the physicianDistinguished University Professor of Social Medicine Montefiore Medical Center Albert Einstein College of Medicine 111 East 210th Street Bronx, NY 10467 USA The 1997 Keynote Address for the White Coat Ceremony at St George's University School of Medicine indicates the importance of social medicine in the work of the physician and urges the students beginning the study of medicine to devote themselves to equitable provision of medical care, to prevention of disease and promotion of health, and to promotion of social well-being.
