Psychology Department, South West London & St George's Mental Health NHS Trust, London The historical and theoretical background to Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is outlined. The main therapeutic approaches of Behaviour Therapy (BT) and Cognitive Therapy (CT) are described - and an overview is provided of the applications of these approaches to clinical problems. The relationships between BT, CT and CBT are clarified.
